授業目的 / Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to improve English speaking and listening skills.
到達目標 / Attainment Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to give and follow instructions in English as demonstrated by their ability to build several Lego Mindstorms models using only English. Students will also be able to organize and deliver several presentations in English, including short presentations of instructional Lego procedure. During the presentations, students should be able to maintain eye contact for at least 50% of the time, control various aspects of body language, use understandable speech, and deliver organized, interesting content within a time limit.

There are no prerequisites for this course. This is the foundational presentation course of the English program and other presentation courses will build on the basics of this course. Writing I B and Reading I B are connected to the content of this course.
授業計画 / Class Overall Plan
This course meets once a week, but the teacher will integrate instruction with the Reading I B and Writing I B courses often. This course is designed to introduce students to I) the language of instructions using Lego Mindstorms and II) the basics of organizing and delivering a presentation in English. This course will give students the foundation necessary for the Communication II B course.

授業方法 / Method of Instruction
This will be a workshop-based class in which the teacher will give clear instructions and guidance while the students prepare, practice and interact with each other in a variety of activities. Students will be introduced to presentation skills in class, practice those skills, and then be assessed on their mastery of those skills during various presentations.
学生による授業評価の方法 / Course Evaluation by Students

成績評価 / Evaluation Criteria/Method
Students must earn a grade of at least 60% to pass this course. Students will be assessed primarily on mastery of presentation and pronunciation skills demonstrated by 1-2 short presentations. Students will also be assessed on homework, recorded Lego videos, mastery of listening skills through quizzes, and other instructor-determined coursework. Finally, students will be expected to attend class and participate on a regular basis.
