授業目的 / Course Objectives
This course aims to raise basic awareness of writing in English through analysis of texts and a wide variety of writing exercises.
到達目標 / Attainment Objectives
Extensive writing will allow students to become comfortable with English written composition. Students will be introduced to paragraph and essay structures and expected to use them in their own writing. By the end of the course, students should be able to write simple, cohesive texts on a variety of subjects. Students should also be able to write structured paragraphs with a clear topic sentence and use basic grammar to express themselves.

There are no prerequisites for this course. This is the foundational course for the English writing program and will connect to what students are learning in their Reading IA and Communications IA classes.
授業計画 / Class Overall Plan
This course meets once a week, but the teacher will integrate instruction with the Reading IA and Communication IA courses often. This course is designed to help students develop basic technology skills, academic writing skills, and to improve writing fluency. Students will use MS Word to deliver formal and informal writing pieces on a variety of topics. Students will also practice extensive writing through a portfolio with assigned topics.

授業方法 / Method of Instruction
This will be a workshop-based class in which the teacher will give clear instruction and guidance in English while students use computers on a daily basis to analyze and compose various writing pieces. This course approaches writing as a process, and students will write and revise their pieces throughout the term.

成績評価 / Evaluation Criteria/Method
Students must earn a grade of at least 60% to pass this course. Students will be assessed on both formal and informal writing activities, their writing portfolio, and other instructor-determined coursework. Finally, students will be expected to attend class and participate on a regular basis.
